     it is, and will get cold as shit there.lol.i hate flw and dread every time i have to go. your bag sounds nice, and others will think so too. leave it at home. take your stuff in a plastic bag or s/t you dint really care about loosing.do not take your cleaning kit or anything else that is of military issue. they will keep it on the assumption of you stole it. trust me, ive seen it before.

     The same company (Wenger, formerly known as Swissgear-Wenger) makes both lines, and is the manufacturer of Swiss Army knives as well. I would go with Sears - whole lot less hassle if you find something wrong with the luggage.

   Am I insane for considering buying a SwissGear Ibex hiking pack from Wal-Mart for traveling to Europe?
   It fits my needs and my price. I wanted to buy a Kelty 3100 which I can get for the same price, but it lacks certain features?

     The Kelty is a much higher quality bag than the SwissGear bag. Just because it has a swiss symbol on it does not make it a good quality. In fact SwissGear is a division of Victorinox that specializes in cheap products. Its how you can get a Swiss bag at a Wal-Mart, or office depot.

   Can you wash a swissgear backpack?
   I have a backpack by Swiss and is smells really bad. Can I just wash it in the washer to clean it or will that ruin it? Thanks

   • ANSWER:
     First thing: check the tag on the pack. If there is one it may tell you how to wash the pack. If not, go to the web site and see if they have guidelines for washing.
     If neither of these things works, here's what I did: I have a Keen bag that I took to a barbecue and now it smells horribly of barbecue smoke. I can't wash the bag in the washer so I mixed vinegar and water in a sprayer in a 1:1 ratio and sprayed it all over the pack. I am now letting it dry in hopes the smell will be gone. If that doesn't work, I'll take it to a dry cleaner.

   how to change an F4T5D fluorescent bulb in a swissgear lantern. my bulbs keep breaking.!?

   • ANSWER:
     I don't want to seem like a smarta#@ but I'd read the directions. An F4T5 bulb is small enough to make it less susceptible to breakage than it's larger cousins. Generally it is a half turn and pull out of the sockets. I'm not sure if there is some latch or lock device on your lantern, but it should not be that difficult.

     You didn't say where you are. In general, at least in US, CA there is no age limitation on knife buying/possession. I've studied CA knife carry laws quite thoroughly, there's nothing about age limit.

     Victorinox makes a good knife. Its really not hard to care for, keep it clean and don't pry with it. Most damage I see in knives comes from trying to use it as a pry bar or chisel.( I'm a bladesmith , I repair allot of knives) learn to sharpen correctly.

     I tried a mono sling bag in middle school. We had lot's of books, so it would fit all of them. But for in high school it probably would have been fine.

   BEST KNIFE SET FOR COLLEGE UNDER 100 POUNDS?
   I need a set of knifes (1st set) and im on a budget. The college offers a full set of knives and kitchen stuff in a suitcase for 88 pounds, however im on the search for a better knife set for similar money.

   I have a quick look and im thinking of getting a starter set in canvas bag, perhaps Victorinox and then buying a large chefs knife to go with it.

   Any suggestions of brands to avoid would be appreciated
   * I am not at Uni. I am attending a college. Supermarket knifes are not allowed, its a professional chef course.

     I would not buy a set at all, I would buy individual knives and make up my own set. When you buy a set all too often some of the knives are good and some less good because the people who decide what knives go into a set are not usually chefs so they really don't know what is best. If you are on a budget you can buy less knives but better quality and add to them when you can afford it.

     I have been out of the trade for a while now but I used to use mainly Victorinox, Sabatier and Emile Gustav.

   Best sleeve for Macbook 13 inch Unibody?
   I am looking for a sleeve that will protect my laptop from scratches, and has enough padding to protect my laptop from crushing force and impact. I currently have it unprotected in a Victorinox Architect messenger bag designed for laptops, so it has some padding. Do i really need a super heavy duty one? or am I just being paranoid and a regular padded sleeve will do? (I carry it along with a very heavy Physics and General Chemistry book, hence my worry about crushing down and denting it)

   • ANSWER:
     Okay I get the concerns. Yah those textbooks have enough weight to do some damage. But to really protect against that you would need a sleeve with VERY dense foam to really absorb the hit. So again, I might suggest getting customizable (cuttable) foam and building your own protection. People use that to protect gear worth tens of thousands of dollars, so it can absorb a big hit.

     Also, if you want to go much cheaper, you could just line a sleeve with bubble wrap. Or just even wrap it around the outside of the sleeve. It just might not be super attractive, but its cheap and if a few bubbles pop, its not much to replace it with a fresh sheet.

     Unfortunately, Oakley does not have a rolling laptop bag, only shoulder strapped laptop bags.

     Tumi stuff is Phenomenal. I've seen their wheeled briefcases in action and they're great. Only problem is, they don't have a rubber backing. They have "sliders" that help the case ride up over curves.

   Should I get my Schrade knife fixed?
   I have a Schrade hunting knife that was given to me. It the Uncle Henry Bear Paw style for anyone who knows about this. The problem is, the spring that keeps the lockblade in place was gone, so I would have to keep my thumb on the lockblade while using the knife. I tried calling the company that bought Schrade, but they would only exchange it for a knife that is now being made overseas and without a serial number. I called around the area, and no one fixes pocket knives anymore. I could get another used one for , but I would rather just keep this one.

   Should I just bear with it and use it while holding the lockblade in place? Or should I just get it exchanged for a new knife made overseas? Is it too dangerous to use a pocketknife with a thumb over the lockblade? Let me know. Thanks.

     If it is how I'm thinking in my head, it should be fine the way it is. It would bother me that it was broken though so I would get a used one for . I would rather have the broken one than the one made overseas though.
